Species Information
General:
Stemless, tufted, perennial herb from a long taproot; plants more or less densely appressed stiff-hairy.
Leaves:
In a basal rosette, lanceolate, (3) 5-15 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, irregularly deeply pinnately-lobed, minutely-hairy, narrowed to slender stalks 1/2 to 2/3 as long as blade.
Flowers:
Inflorescence terminal on leafless stems; hypanthium 10-25 mm long, the flared upper portion 1.5-2 mm long; petals yellow, not aging to purplish, 6-8 (10) mm long; sepals bent downward; stamens unequal in length; stigmas globe-shaped, very slightly lobed.
Fruits:
Capsules, leathery, narrowly egg-shaped, tapered upwards, 1-2.5 cm long, more or less 4-angled, usually curved above, roughened with rounded projections, hairy.

Dry open areas in the montane zone; rare in SC BC, known recently from Mt. Kobau; E to SK and S to UT and CO.Status Information
